We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Joshua Metz to the position of head of school of the Auburn School Fairfax Campus starting in June. We had a large candidate pool and were able to choose from the best. The leadership team, staff and parents were thrilled to have someone with Josh’s expertise considered. His commitment to students and families is clear and will be an asset to the Auburn community.

Josh comes to us as both a parent of an Auburn student and as a talented Licensed Social Worker serving students and families providing therapy and early intervention to young children with pervasive developmental and autism spectrum challenges. Josh has a master’s of social work from Catholic University of America, concentrating on infant and early childhood development. He is a graduate of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disorders Fellowship program and has served as a Field Instructor for the Foundation Year Field Education and Integrative Seminar. He will be supported in the classroom by our talented leadership team and teaching staff.

Many of our community were part of the recruitment process and we appreciate their time and thoughts as we searched for the right person to lead our school. Since Auburn’s founding in 2009, we have seen extraordinary growth in our students, our staff and our community. As educators, we are always evaluating all that we do and how we do it since our mission to grow the social and academic potential of bright students with social and communication challenges is so very profound to us all. We recognize the wonderful resources we have on staff and know that we are extremely fortunate. We are pleased that Josh will be joining our team as we further enhance our programs.

Josh will be joining us officially June 5th, and until then, will be splitting his time between Family Compass and Auburn. This is great for us as it will provide the team an opportunity to prepare for the new school year. And more importantly, more time to spend with Heather as she and her family will be moving to Chicago prior to the end of the school year. Officially her last day at Auburn will be June 1. We will keep you posted on the transition and plans moving forward. We want to thank Heather for her dedication and love to our students, our families and our community.

Again, thank you for your support, and see you in the coming days.

Kind regards,

Marina Major, CEO/President
