Our Students

They see things a little differently. They feel things more intensely. Smart, often very bright, they are capable of tremendous focus and of absorbing large amounts of information. They have the cognitive power to succeed in college and challenging careers, but also significant social and communication challenges which, if unaddressed, will greatly compromise their ability to advance. We have designed a school that provides them all the challenge they crave, with the social support they need to succeed.

Auburn Students:

• • Benefit from support in the areas of socialization, executive functioning, organization, attention, social communication, and pragmatic language.

– Auburn serves students with challenges such as social awkwardness, restricted or unusually intense interests or behavior, difficulty sustaining conversations or friendships, and trouble successfully interacting in large group settings.
– Auburn uses success-oriented strategies to support executive functions, focus and impulsivity.
– Auburn’s program is designed for students who can benefit from these supports, including, but not limited to, students who are diagnosed with High Functioning Autism, ADHD, and Anxiety, PDD-NOS, NVLD, ADHD, .

• • Learn in an academically challenging, yet nurturing, environment.

– Our program is designed for students with average to above-average academic and intellectual abilities and potential.
– Auburn maintains strong academic standards and expects that all students will pursue a diploma-track program and college matriculation. Our students do, however, often have academic abilities that vary by subject.
– Auburn is equipped to provide or suggest additional resources for students who require instructional support to achieve their full potential.
